Sustainable Household Grant

CLIMATE MASTER SUSTAINABLE HOUSEHOLD SCHEME

As a Canberra-based air conditioning expert with over 25 years of experience, Climate Master understands the importance of energy efficiency for homeowners. We know that many people are looking to upgrade to technologically advanced products that can improve their home’s energy efficiency, but often worry about the costs involved.

Most homeowners love pursuing the goal of energy efficiency. However, this can often involve a capital outlay as they seek to buy technologically advanced products that are as efficient as possible. That’s why we’re excited to share that the ACT sustainable household scheme runs until 2026.

Sustainable initiatives that are normally quite pricey like electric stovetops, battery storage systems and hot water heater pumps can be made more accessible to more households thanks to this scheme. If you qualify, you might even be able to borrow beyond the $15,000 limit with some extra fees, so you can turn your home into a sustainability haven immediately!

Don’t let the costs stop you from making the necessary upgrades. Contact our team at Climate Master today and let us help you take advantage of the ACT sustainable household scheme.

Interest-free solar loans

Homeowners who are eligible can apply to the government’s solar scheme for a loan of up to $15,000. The best part, the loan also covers a new air conditioner and high-efficiency hot water heat pump! The aim is to reduce the home’s environmental impact by helping the property owner install solar panels, batteries, electric heating and cooling systems and other products. While specific terms and conditions apply to the ACT solar loan, the government will not levy any interest for up to 10 years and will not charge any upfront fees or costs either.

ACT government solar loan options

ACT gov solar loans of between $2,000 and $15,000 can be used to install:

  • Rooftop solar panels
  • Battery storage systems
  • Hot water heat pumps
  • Electric stovetops
  • Electric heating and cooling systems
  • Electric vehicles and charging infrastructure

Product categories

The government provides a list of eligible products, and you can install one product or a bundle from a specific category. For example, category A products include solar panels, interest-free solar battery systems and electric vehicle charging stations. Category B will include electric heating or cooling systems, and category C will cover electric cars.

Application process

Eligibility will be determined during a loan application credit check, and the government has selected Brighte as the loan provider for the scheme. In some circumstances, you may be able to borrow more than the $15,000 limit, but in this case, the loan provider may charge interest on the extra funds.

If your application is successful, your repayments will begin when you either buy the electric vehicle or install the product or system and it becomes operational.

Eligibility for the solar energy government scheme

The program is open to ACT residents who should either hold a current driving licence or own their home. To be eligible, you need to attend a free one-hour live workshop (online). This session can help you understand the various energy efficiency options available and the details of the ACT solar scheme.

Other details

Remember, this is not a free solar panel government scheme but rather a zero-interest loan. While there are no fees to set up the loan, you can repay it early without any penalty. It is important to keep up with your repayments, though, as otherwise, you may incur separate fees. To stand the best chance of acceptance, you should have a good credit history and be able to repay the loan without overly taxing your budget.

Government commitment

The ACT government has committed to a policy of net zero emissions by 2045. The sustainable household scheme is an integral part of that campaign and has some of the best solar loans in Australia. These loans should make it much easier for households to become more energy-efficient through interest-free solar panels and interest free air conditioners.

FAQs

What is the main benefit of investing in interest-free solar loans?

Homeowners who invest in interest-free solar loans won’t have to worry about paying interest for up to 10 years — this means you can invest in more sustainable initiatives without worrying about accruing even more interest than expected.

How can I find out if my household is qualified for an ACT sustainable household scheme?

To be eligible, all you have to do is meet our simple criteria outlined in the Scheme Guidelines, as well as Brighte’s lending criteria. And here’s the best part — the government offers a free one-hour live workshop to guide you through the process!

What are the benefits of a more sustainable home?

By opting for energy-efficient solutions at home, you can experience the following benefits:

  • Save more money — Reduce your utility bills and put more money back into your pocket.
  • Improve air quality — Sustainable air conditioning not only helps you save on electric bills, but it also helps ensure that the quality of air at home is cleaner and easier to breathe in.
  • Create a healthier environment for your family — More sustainable households essentially have better temperature management, which means that your family is not just more comfortable at home, but they’re also less prone to illnesses that stem from extreme cold or heat.

The people I live with don’t think a sustainable household scheme is important. How do I convince them that it’s worth signing up for?

Instead of diving deep into the details behind the ACT sustainable household scheme, try to introduce them to the benefits of sustainable living. Here’s how:

  • Educate them — Present them with easy-to-digest facts about how sustainable households not only help the environment, but save on energy costs as well.
  • Make small changes at home — Reduce water consumption, turn your lights off when not in use and try to introduce your family to composting. Ensure that they understand the importance of these small changes and how they affect your household!
  • Ensure that they feel involved — You don’t want to sound preachy when talking about sustainable living — hear them out and ask them for their ideas when brainstorming for sustainability initiatives at home.
